Greece could become home to a new AI Factory, as the Copelouzos Group joins forces with Khazna Data Centers and Core42, two companies within Abu Dhabi-based technology group G42, to explore the development of advanced AI infrastructure in the country. The initiative was confirmed in an announcement issued today by G42, corroborating an earlier report by mononews journalist Marina Protonotariou.
The proposed project would integrate state-of-the-art data center infrastructure, cloud services, and dedicated high-performance computing capabilities to support artificial intelligence applications. It is expected to serve a broad range of potential users across key sectors of the Greek economy, including banking, telecommunications, shipping, and the public sector.
The memoranda of understanding form part of a broader series of agreements between G42 and Greek partners, spanning areas such as smart cities, education, and life sciences.
The announcement does not disclose the proposed investment amount or the planned capacity of the AI Factory. The scope, structure, and timelines of the initiatives will be determined at a later stage, subject to the conclusion of definitive agreements and the necessary regulatory approvals.
G42 is an Abu Dhabi-based technology holding group with a global presence. The group focuses on advancing the adoption of artificial intelligence across a wide range of industries and disciplines, from molecular biology to space exploration.
AI Factory Development in Partnership with the Copelouzos Group
Under the agreements with the Copelouzos Group, Khazna Data Centers and Core42 will explore the development of an AI Factory in Greece, bringing together advanced data center infrastructure, cloud services, and high-performance computing capabilities tailored to artificial intelligence applications.
Khazna would lead the development of the physical infrastructure, while Core42 would provide the cloud services and AI computing capabilities needed to support organizations across key sectors, including banking, telecommunications, shipping, and government.
“Our partnership with G42 will bring world-class, state-of-the-art AI infrastructure to Greece, strengthening the country’s position as a strategic digital and energy hub in Southeastern Europe,” said Christos Copelouzos, CEO of the Copelouzos Group.
“By combining our expertise in large-scale infrastructure and energy with the technological capabilities of Khazna and Core42, we aim to establish an AI Factory that will accelerate the digital transformation of the Greek economy, attract new investment, and create highly skilled jobs,” he added.
G42 also announced that the Abu Dhabi-based technology holding group and five of its portfolio companies signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) on October 22 with Greek government entities and private-sector partners. The agreements cover several strategic areas, including AI infrastructure, government services, life sciences, and smart cities.
The agreements were signed during an official visit to Athens led by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Trade, which included the UAE–Greece Business Forum.
The agreements mark the expansion of G42’s Intelligence Grid initiative into Greece, reflecting the group’s vision of making intelligence as accessible and reliable as electricity.
The Intelligence Grid brings together the entire AI value chain, from data centers and advanced computing capabilities to cloud infrastructure and industry-specific applications, enabling governments, businesses, and communities to harness the power of artificial intelligence at scale.
